Purchasing Your Own Equipment

SCT students have access to all the technological resources necessary to complete their studies. If you prefer to purchase your own equipment, consult with your instructor.

FAQs

Q. What happens if I return my equipment late?
A: There is a late fee of $25 per hour and $200 per day that the equipment is late.

Q. Can I rent equipment out if I am not enrolled in a production course?
A: Unfortunately, no. We only have the resources to serve students who are currently enrolled in an approved SCT production course.

Q. Can my friend return equipment for me?
A: Yes. If you wish to have someone else return for you, all you have to do is write their name for a “third party return” at the bottom of the invoice or notify us via email a minimum of 24 hours before the equipment is due back.

Q. How do I pay fines?
A: You may bring either a check or money order made out to Temple University into the Equipment Office.

Q. Can I reserve equipment and pick it up the next day?
A: No. You must reserve your equipment a minimum of 48 business hours (Sat. and Sun. do not count) before you wish to check out equipment.

Q. Do I need to check out my equipment at a certain time during the day?
A: Yes. You must pick up equipment in the afternoon (1 – 4:15 p.m.).

Q. Do I need to return my equipment at a certain time during the day?
A: Yes. You need to return equipment in the morning (8:30 – 11:30 a.m.).

Q. Can I rent equipment if I have an outstanding fine?
A: If you have any unpaid fines, you will be unable to reserve equipment or make any new reservations. If you have a reservation in the system, it will be deleted if you do not pay the fine within 48 business hours before that reservation.

Q. What are the rental periods for equipment checkouts?

A: Undergrads may reserve the equipment from:

Monday PM – Wednesday AM
Wednesday PM – Friday AM
Friday PM – Monday AM

Graduate and Senior projects students may reserve equipment from:

Thursday – Tuesday

Q. May I extend my reservation?
A: Unfortunately, no. We have over 1,000 registered students in any given semester, and everyone deserves an equal chance to fill their equipment needs. If you were to extend your reservation, it would slow down the circulation of equipment, making it more difficult for other students to complete their projects.

Q. What happens if I miss my reservation?
A: If you fail to pick up your reservation, you will be listed as a “No Show.” There is no penalty, other than having your reservation deleted for the first offense. There is a $25 fine for your second offense. After your third “No Show” there will be a 2 week suspension of your privileges.
